Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and a method (600) for secure communication over a network (128). The system includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor. An identity commitment unit (106) obtains time value associated with a message, and retrieves from distributed append-only ledger (126) registry commitment value (208) committed to ledger (126) in association with time value, registry commitment value (208) being root hash of hash tree formed over public keys (202a, 202b, 202c, 202d) registered in identity registry (124). A session key derivation module (108) obtains shared secret with second device (130) and derives session key from combination of shared secret and retrieved registry commitment value (208). A cryptographic processing unit (110) applies session key to message and generates integrity value. A modification of identity registry (124) after time value causes verification of integrity value to fail.
