Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SCALABLE AND LOW-COMPLEX LLR COMPUTATION FOR M-QAM USING MULTI-STAGE GEOMETRIC DECOMPOSITION A method for log-likelihood ratio computation in M-QAM demodulation for 5G-NR receivers is disclosed. The method addresses computation of soft-decision demodulation information for higher-order QAM symbols. The method receives an equalized symbol, identifies dominant constellation points, applies coordinate shift and scaling operations, performs x-y folding to recursively reduce a higher-order constellation to a QPSK-equivalent constellation, and computes log- likelihood ratios at each stage using transformed symbol components. The method may use fixed-point symbol and LLR representations and may be implemented in burst-processing hardware for wireless communication receivers. Fig. 2 characterizes staged transformation of 64QAM LLR computation into QPSK-equivalent LLR computations.
