Abstract: Disclosed is a system, and a method and medium, for suggesting media titles by rule-based genre filtering. A dataset of media titles, each associated with at least one genre, is stored as structured data. The system presents selectable genres and receives a genre selected by a user. It filters the dataset to a subset of titles each associated with the selected genre, by comparing the selected genre with the genre of each title according to a rule, in one embodiment including a title when the selected genre is among its genres. The subset is displayed, in one embodiment dynamically and at a client without a server request. The suggestion is produced from the stored dataset by the rule alone, without a user history and without a trained model, so it operates for a new user with little computational cost and transparent logic.
