MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110403 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 15, 2026, for System And Method For Real-Time Multi-Task Driver Monitoring With Personalized Safety Indexing And Privacy Preserving Edge Deployment.

Inventors include Konatham Sumalatha; and Akkiraju Pruthvi.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention provides an integrated Driver Monitoring System (DMS) apparatus and method for real-time detection and personalized assessment of driver impairment. An Acquisition Layer (101) captures RGB camera frames and generates a normalized facial representation. A Shared-Backbone Multi-Task Inference Layer (102) employs a MobileNetV3-Large network to generate a 512-dimensional shared embedding processed in parallel by task-specific heads for eye state, yawning, distraction, and three-axis head pose. A Cross-Task Risk Fusion Layer (103) combines calibrated task risks into a composite risk. A P-DSI Layer (104) establishes a driver-specific baseline using an initial calibration period and employs gated exponential moving-average updating to prevent impairment-induced baseline drift. An alert state is determined using hysteresis. A Privacy-Preserving Tamper-Evident Event Logger (105) stores only numerical event metadata using SHA-256 hash chaining, excluding image and biometric data. The architecture enables low-latency edge inference while providing personalized, privacy-preserving, and tamper- evident driver safety monitoring
