MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076178 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 19, 2026, for System And Method For Quantum Key Distribution Using Hybrid Error Correction And Adaptive Key Resizing.
Inventors include Swetha Ng; Dr. R. K. Mugelan; and Sarah Nadeem.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: A Quantum Key Distribution system (100) and method are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a sender node configured to generate random bits and corresponding encoding bases and a receiver node configured to measure transmitted quantum states. A basis reconciliation module generates a sifted key, and a quantum bit error rate estimation module determines a quantum bit error rate associated with the sifted key. A hybrid error correction module performs reconciliation using Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoding followed by Cascade-based residual error refinement. A key verification module verifies consistency of a reconciled key. A secure key length estimation module determines a secure key length based on sifted key length, quantum bit error rate, and reconciliation information. An adaptive key resizing module adjusts the reconciled key according to the determined secure key length. Privacy amplification is performed using Toeplitz-matrix-based hashing, followed by generation of a cryptographic key through a key generation module.
