MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511011968 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on February 12, 2025, for System And Method For Quantum Dot (qd) Based Sensing In A Vehicle.

Inventors include Pramod Muralimohan; Pradeep Nagaraj; Anshuman Awasthi; and Balaji Sethuraman.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a Quantum Dot (QD)-based sensing system (104) and a method (400A) for monitoring and maintaining air quality within a cabin of a vehicle (102). The system (104) includes an interior air purification subsystem (106) including an air filter (108) embedded with QDs (116), a UV light source (110), and a photodiode (112) for detecting photoluminescence signals emitted by the QDs (116). The system (104) excites the QDs (116) via UV light and analyses the wavelength of emitted photoluminescence signals to detect changes caused by the presence of one or more gases. Based on the changes, the system (104) determines a gas concentration value and compares them against predefined thresholds. If the gas concentration value exceeds the threshold, the system (104) facilitates air recirculation or ingestion of external air, and displays warnings as needed to maintain optimal air quality within the cabin of the vehicle.
