MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125344 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for System And Method For Predictive Cloud-Edge-Mesh Failover Of An Iot Network With Quorum-Gated Hardware.
Inventors include Arpan Garai; Vimalan Durai Mathalon T D; R Leenaa Padmini; and S K Anikshaa.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for autonomous failover of an Internet- of-Things network between infrastructure mode and an ad-hoc peer-to- peer mesh (106). Each node samples the received signal strength and round-trip time of its link to a gateway (104); crossing a warning limit pre-stages the election, and crossing a stricter failover limit switches to peer-to-peer mode. Each node computes a hardware-stamina score from battery voltage, free flash, processor headroom and historical uptime and broadcasts it; the highest-scoring node becomes the temporary coordinator (108) only when it receives votes from a strict majority of the registered nodes. The coordinator monitors its own score and heartbeat and triggers offline re-election on degradation, and a learning engine re-derives the score weights from recorded coordinator tenures. Telemetry is prioritised by criticality over TDMA slots and masked before buffering (110). On restoration, ratchet-signed batches are committed only after vector-clock and Merkle-root checks.
