MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115332 A) filed by Srm University-Ap on September 26, 2026, for System And Method For Prediction Of Rare Earth Element Recovery From Coal Mine Waste.

Inventors include Dr. Deblina Dutta; Dr. Naga Bhushana Rao Karampudi; Pranav Prashant Dagwar; and Kiruthiga Shankar Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system (100) and method (400) for predicting recovery of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) from coal mine waste under controlled acidic leaching conditions using artificial intelligence. An experimentally generated dataset, comprising initial REE concentration together with physicochemical descriptors, namely atomic number, atomic weight, elemental identity and REE group classification, across a plurality of mineral acid leaching systems, is used to train a Random Forest Regression model and, optionally, a Deep Neural Network model to output a continuous predicted REE recovery efficiency. An explainable artificial intelligence module (118) computes SHAP-based relative importance values for each descriptor, enabling transparent interpretation of the prediction. The trained model is deployed through an interactive, device-independent, browser-based platform through which a user specifies REE identity, acid digestion system and sample concentration and receives, in real time, a predicted recovery efficiency, a confidence estimate, and a downloadable report, thereby reducing experimental effort, chemical consumption and process development time.
