Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention provides a guardian-controlled firmware-recovery architecture for physically qualifying authenticated firmware candidates on an actual recovered device. Multiple candidates are provisionally executed under a common device-state representation and common operational intent while a non- bypassable hardware boundary prevents candidate-generated actuator commands from reaching physical actuators. A low-level actuation trace generated by each candidate is intercepted and persisted as a candidate-bound replay object in guardian-controlled memory. Before physical replay, the corresponding candidate is reset, suspended, terminated, isolated, or otherwise deprived of replay-capable actuator authority. A hardware authority arbiter then grants replay authority exclusively to a trusted guardian, which reproduces the persisted trace on the actual endpoint without re-executing the candidate. An independent physical witness measures a resulting physical consequence and associates the measurement with the corresponding candidate-bound replay object. The guardian uses the physical evidence to retain or eliminate the candidate. Only a physically qualified surviving candidate is permitted a protected boot-authority transition, while failure of all candidates maintains the device in recovery or quarantine.
