The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OVER-THE-AIR FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR VEHICLE CONTROL UNIT A method for over-the-air firmware updates involves receiving MQTT messages that contain API details for fetching new firmware. The firmware is downloaded via an HTTP GET request and temporarily stored in memory at address 0x0046C000. Metadata such as checksum and image size is extracted to verify the firmware's integrity. The vehicle must be in an idle state with an auxiliary battery charge above 70% before switching to bootloader mode. The existing firmware is erased from main application memory, and the new firmware is copied over. The process verifies success and boots the updated firmware. Error handling allows for reversion to previous firmware if issues arise, and logs the update process for diagnostics. The system operates the current application while handling updates, ensuring secure installation with source authentication. Ref. Fig. 2
