MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125345 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for System And Method For Non-Invasive Estimation Of Blockage State.

Inventors include Abdul Haq; and Shaik Roohi Naaz.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for estimating the blockage state of stormwater drain segments without entry. Field nodes (102) with non-contact depth sensors measure water depth at junctions. Each node extracts, by synchronous detection at the known frequency of a periodic ambient forcing, such as a tidal constituent from the outfall or the diurnal dry-weather flow wave, a complex response phasor (112). The ratio of the phasors of adjacent nodes gives the amplitude attenuation and phase lag across the segment, inverted to recover the effective conveyance (122) and the blockage state as a fractional conveyance deficit, during dry weather. A storm hysteresis statistic separates blockage from rainfall-input error, lag-sign reversal localises the causal segment, and a monotone-constrained Bayesian filter with maintenance resets tracks the state. The states drive forward prediction, risk-ranked work orders and actuation of gates or pumps.
