Abstract: The present invention pertains to a pH-biologically responsive intracanal drug delivery system for application in endodontics therapy. The said delivery system consists of a gutta-percha substrate, having an exterior layer of several hydrogels with incorporated drug agents that have different responses to the intracanal environment. Such hydrogel layers include an external layer of chitosan for quick drug delivery in the presence of acidity, an intermediate layer of carbopol for gradual delivery when there is near neutrality, and an internal layer of polyethylene glycol that delivers drug agents through nanoparticles.
