MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072620 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Palakkad; Pranasense Ai Tech Private Limited; and University Of Agder on June 11, 2026, for System And Method For Multimodal Cry Sensing And Monitoring Of An Infant.
Inventors include Sivaranjini Perikamana Narayanan; M. Sabarimalai Manikandan; and Linga Reddy Cenkeramaddi.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and a method (200) for cry sensing and monitoring of an infant. The system (100) includes a multimodal sensor assembly (102) having an acoustic sensor and a non-acoustic sensor, a communication interface (126), a memory (124) storing a deep cry sensing model, and processor(s) (122). The processor(s) (122) receive acoustic data and non-acoustic data, identify candidate sound portions using relatively low intensity/short burst detection, generate a two-dimensional sound representation, and classify the two-dimensional sound representation as noise-free cry, noisy cry, or no-cry. Cry-context information is determined from the non-acoustic data, and a cry event is generated based on the classification and the cry-context information. The processor(s) (122) trigger an event-controlled action, including storing an electronic cry record, transmitting an Internet of Things packet, notifying a remote computing device (128), or activating a cradle swing for caregiver assistance.
