MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631105099 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Silchar on September 01, 2026, for System And Method For Monitoring Direct Current (dc) Bias In Dual Active Bridge (dab) Converters.

Inventors include Sayantan Chowdhury; Amritesh Kumar; and Chayan Bhattacharjee.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for monitoring direct current (DC) bias in a high-frequency isolation transformer (102C) of a dual active bridge (DAB) converter (102). A low-bandwidth current sensor (104) is positioned across an auxiliary inductor (102D) of the DAB converter to sense a leakage inductor current and output a noise-incorporated observed signal. A controller (106) defines a synchronized sample acquisition window within a switching cycle to acquire data samples from the observed signal during maximum current variations. The controller (106) processes these samples using a second-order difference constraint to iteratively minimize a posterior objective function, generating a denoised estimated raw signal. Estimated positive and negative peak currents are extracted from this denoised signal, and a steady-state DC offset current is calculated as their arithmetic average. This allows continuous, accurate tracking of transformer magnetic bias using a cost-effective, low-bandwidth current sensor while suppressing measurement noise.
