The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING MICROALGAL PHB BIOCOMPOSITE FILMS USING AGRICULTURAL WASTE STARCH AND CHITOSAN ADDITIVES A system and method for manufacturing biodegradable microalgal polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) biocomposite films using agricultural waste-derived starch and chitosan are disclosed. The invention utilizes PHB obtained from microalgal sources including Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus obliquus, combined with potato peel starch or tapioca peel starch, chitosan, corn starch, glycerol, sorbitol, and polylactic acid (PLA). The formulation is blended in a water- chloroform solvent system, homogenized, thermally processed, cooled, cast into films, and dried under controlled conditions. The resulting biocomposite films exhibit enhanced tensile strength, flexibility, structural integrity, and biodegradability compared to conventional PHB films. The invention further promotes agricultural waste valorization and renewable resource utilization while providing biodegradable materials suitable for packaging, agricultural films, biomedical products, and environmentally sustainable industrial applications.
