Inventors include P. Rajalakshmi; and Gunala Hemanth.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) localization and navigation system and method for operation in a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-denied environment are disclosed. The system includes an onboard imaging unit configured to capture sequential aerial images, a memory storing georeferenced reference images, and a processing unit including an absolute localization module, a relative motion estimation module, a state fusion module, and a coordinate generation module. The absolute localization module determines an absolute vehicle position by matching captured aerial images with portions of the georeferenced reference images using cross-view image registration and feature matching. The relative motion estimation module determines vehicle displacement between successive image frames using optical-flow- based tracking. The state fusion module combines absolute position estimates and relative-motion estimates to generate corrected vehicle position estimates and reduce accumulated drift. Synthetic geodetic coordinates generated from the corrected vehicle position estimates are transmitted to a flight control system for autonomous navigation. (Fig. 1)
