MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411099092 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 14, 2024, for System And Method For Lane Index Estimation.
Inventors include Bharath Bhat; Laxmi Kant Sahoo; Trishna Patil; Chandan Kumar; Sakshi Dwivedi; and Shweta Sahu.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (100) and a method (600) for lane index estimation in an ego vehicle that utilizes dynamic object data and free space data to estimate an ego lane index. The system (100) is configured to process environmental attributes from sensors (102) attached to the vehicle. These environmental attributes are fused to form a dynamic object fusion vector representing spatial and temporal relationships. In addition, a sequential learning model analyzes temporal dependencies and patterns in the dynamic object fusion vector to estimate the ego lane index. The model is trained using supervised and unsupervised learning for robust and accurate lane detection in real-time environments. Further, the estimated ego lane index dynamically updates as the vehicle moves, reflecting the lane in which the vehicle is traveling.
