Abstract: ABSTRACT The present disclosure relates to label-free microfluidic cell sorting. The system (102) includes a piezoelectric substrate (104) having a pair of interdigital transducers (106) that generate surface acoustic waves, and a microfluidic chip (108) bonded to the piezoelectric substrate (104). The microfluidic chip (108) includes a pair of impedance measurement electrodes (110) positioned at a fixed separation distance upstream of a bifurcation region. A hardware processor (112) measures complex impedance values of cell traversing the electrodes (110) at two discrete frequencies. The processor (112) computes impedance ratio parameter from the measured values and compares it against predetermined threshold to identify the cell as target or non-target cell. The processor (112) determines delay period based on cell flow velocity and the fixed separation distance, then generates an activation signal causing the interdigital transducers 106 to deflect the identified target cell at the bifurcation region, enabling precise sorting without labels or biomarkers.
