MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641101918 A) filed by Dayananda Sagar College Of Engineering on August 24, 2026, for System And Method For Internal Heating Effects On Stability Of Natural Convection In A Bidispersive Porous Media.

Inventor includes Dr. Kallugudi Vari Nagamani.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for analyzing the effect of internal heat generation on the linear stability of buoyancy-driven flow in a vertically oriented bidispersive porous layer. The porous medium is characterized by a dual-scale structure consisting of coupled macro-pore and micro-pore networks confined between two impermeable boundaries maintained at distinct constant temperatures. The flow is modeled using an extended Darcy-based formulation that accounts for interactions between the macro- and micro-pore networks. The presence of internal heating modifies the base flow structure, leading to nonlinear temperature and velocity profiles. Stability of the system is evaluated through linear perturbation and normal mode analysis, wherein the governing equations are transformed into a generalized eigenvalue problem and solved numerically using the Chebyshev collocation method. Numerical results indicate that the growth rates of disturbances remain negative over a wide range of governing parameters, thereby confirming unconditional linear stability of the flow. The invention provides a reliable framework for predicting thermal stability behavior and facilitates improved design and optimization of thermal systems, including heat exchangers, geothermal reservoirs, nuclear reactor cooling systems, and electronic cooling devices involving multi-scale porous media.
