Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IN SITU HYDROGEL FORMATION USING CO-SPRAYED AQUEOUS IONIC LIQUID AND FATTY ACID COMPOSITIONS The present invention relates to a dual-spray system and method for the in situ formation of a supramolecular ionic hydrogel through the simultaneous spraying of an aqueous solution of a choline amino acid-based ionic liquid and a fatty acid. In a preferred embodiment, the ionic liquid comprises choline proline ([Cho][Pro]), and the fatty acid comprises linoleic acid, oleic acid, or combinations thereof. Upon contact at the target site, the precursor solutions undergo spontaneous self-assembly through non-covalent interactions, including hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and hydrophobic interactions, to form a physically cross-linked hydrogel under ambient conditions without polymerization, chemical cross-linkers, external initiators, catalysts, or organic solvents. The resulting hydrogel exhibits self-healing, adhesive, temperature-responsive, and pH-responsive properties, with excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. The invention is suitable for biomedical, pharmaceutical, environmental, and industrial applications requiring rapid localized hydrogel formation. Fig.1
