The method includes identifying a plurality of data processing components, a plurality of data dependencies, a plurality of data transformations, a plurality of execution relationships, a plurality of input data characteristics, and a plurality of output data characteristics based on the received legacy data processing codebase. The method includes generating a representation of a data processing workflow corresponding to the legacy data processing codebase. The method includes determining, based on the representation of the data processing workflow, a plurality of modernization requirements associated with preservation of data processing behavior and adaptation of the legacy data processing codebase for execution in a cloud computing environment.
