Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and system for generating a compressed data stream using a Lempel-Ziv (LZ)4 technique. The method includes receiving, an input data stream comprising a plurality of elements. Further, the method includes generating a left buffer (407) based on the received input data stream. Furthermore, the method includes comparing a first set of elements included in the left buffer with a second set of elements included in a top buffer (409). In addition, the method includes generating, using one or more sequence-based comparison techniques, one or more bit vectors based on the comparison. Further, the method includes identifying a continuous match and mismatch within generated one or more bit vectors. Further, the method includes determining a match length and a mismatch length within the at least one bit vector. Furthermore, the method includes generating the compressed data stream.
