Abstract: The system (100) comprises left and right rear hub motors (108L, 108R), left and right motor controllers (110L, 110R), left and right motor isolation circuits (122L, 122R) configured to decouple the respective motor controller from the power bus upon an isolation command, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor system, steering angle sensing system (118), and Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) (112). Upon fault confirmation in either motor or controller, the VCU (112) isolates the faulted motor controller and transitions the vehicle into a fail-safe operating mode where only the healthy motor propels the vehicle, while continuously computing yaw error and applying corrective actions to actively compensate for yaw instability caused by asymmetric propulsion resulting from failure of one rear hub motor.
