Abstract: An energization system (100) and method for a power conversion unit (150) to charge one or more electrically chargeable vehicles having a switching element (140), a pre-charging unit (160) and control circuitry (170). The switching element (140) is maintained in a first state in which AC power supply to the power conversion unit (150) is interrupted. The pre-charging circuit (160) charges an energy storage element (156) while the switching element remains in the first state. The control circuitry (170) monitors a voltage associated with the energy storage element and, when the voltage reaches a predetermined voltage level, causes the switching element (140) to transition to a second state to permit AC power to be supplied to the power conversion unit.
