Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for solving the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem in power systems using a Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization (QPSO) algorithm. The proposed approach integrates quantum-inspired principles with particle swarm optimization to enhance global search capability, convergence speed, and solution accuracy. Quantum probability representation and quantum rotation gate-based particle updates enable efficient exploration and exploitation of the search space while avoiding premature convergence. An external penalty mechanism is employed to transform constrained ELD problems into an unconstrained optimization framework, facilitating effective handling of generator operating limits and power balance constraints. The proposed method is validated on 3-, 5-, and 13-generator test systems, demonstrating superior fuel cost minimization, faster convergence, and improved optimization performance compared with conventional and enhanced PSO-based techniques, making it suitable for modern power system operation and energy management applications.
