MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075003 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 17, 2026, for System And Method For Distributed Tremor Detection And Hazard Response In A Mining Environment.

Inventors include Nageshwar Rao Ragi; Samridhi Vibhanshu; and Rakshit Ratan Pathak.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISTRIBUTED TREMOR DETECTION AND HAZARD RESPONSE IN A MINING ENVIRONMENT A system (100) for detection of tremor events and structural disturbances in a mining environment (114) is disclosed. The system comprises a plurality of spatially distributed sensor nodes (108) positioned at different locations within the mining environment (114), each sensor node including an inertial sensor for acquiring vibration data comprising acceleration and angular velocity signals, a processor (102), a memory (104) storing executable instructions and at least one trained machine learning model (106), and a communication interface. The processor (102) preprocesses the acquired vibration data, extracts vibration features, classifies the extracted features into environmental conditions using the trained machine learning model (106), and validates the classified conditions using rule-based validation criteria. A hazardous event is confirmed only upon correlation of abnormal preliminary event detection outcomes from at least two spatially separated sensor nodes (108) within a predefined temporal window, thereby improving detection reliability.
