Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for discovery and validation of lead-free perovskite functional materials having targeted electronic band gap properties. The method comprises collecting electronic band gap data using a data collection module 102, extracting physical, chemical, structural, and electronic descriptors using a feature processing module 104, and generating a chemical compositional space of candidate perovskite materials using a generated new chemical space module 402. The generated compositions are subjected to physics-based formability screening by a physics-based pre-screening module 404 to identify structurally feasible candidate materials. A classification model 106 is applied to identify wide band gap candidate materials and a regression model 108 is applied to predict continuous electronic band gap values. High-confidence novel lead-free perovskite materials are identified through candidate filtering module 410 and validated using a DFT based validation module 412 and an experimental validation module 414. Explainable analysis is further performed to identify physicochemical descriptors influencing predicted electronic band gap behavior. Refer Fig. 1
