Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (202) and method (400) for determining a dominant lane for autonomous vehicles (106), providing stable navigation across different lane models (105) and during different lane events. The system (202) receives map data for multiple lane models (105), and identifies the position of the vehicle (106) therein. The system (202) corrects reference lines using backward lane connectivity. Further, the system (202) constructs a lane topology and identifies the dominant lane, as the longest lane within the topology. The system (202) enhances vehicle stability, and ensures smoother navigation, particularly in scenarios involving lane merges, splits, or divergences, contributing to safer and more reliable autonomous driving.
