Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (102) and a method (300) for determining a depression severity level of a user from conversational speech. The conversational speech corresponding to the user is received from a client device (104) and processed to generate a transcription thereof. Speech features including acoustic features and prosodic features are extracted from the conversational speech, while linguistic features are extracted from the transcription. For each utterance of the conversational speech, a multimodal feature representation is generated based on the corresponding speech features and linguistic features. A conversational graph is then constructed from the multimodal feature representations, wherein nodes correspond to respective utterances and edges represent relationships among the utterances. The conversational graph is subsequently processed using a graph attention network to determine the depression severity level of the user.
