MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641105357 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli on September 01, 2026, for System And Method For Detecting Traffic Targets In An Environment Surrounding A Vehicle.
Inventors include M, Brindha; and Vivek Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: A system (102) for detecting one or more traffic targets (114) in an environment (100) surrounding a vehicle (104) is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of sensors (106) configured to generate image data (402), point cloud data (502), and radar data (602), and one or more processors (204). The processors determine a quality indicator for each data type, the indicator representing the reliability of the respective sensor data and being derived therefrom. Based on the quality indicators, the processors assign an image weighting factor (706), a point cloud weighting factor (708), and a radar weighting factor (710), each representing the relative contribution of the corresponding data source. The processors further extract an image feature (712), a point cloud feature (714), and a radar feature (716), and combine them according to the assigned weighting factors to generate a fused feature representation (720).
