MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621110025 A) filed by Sanjeev Agrawal Global Educational University, Bhopal; and Dr. Prashant Jain on September 14, 2026, for System And Method For Crop Breeding Evaluation And Heterosis Assessment.

Inventors include Dr. Atul Kumar Pachauri; and Dr. Praveen Shrivastava.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CROP BREEDING EVALUATION AND HETEROSIS ASSESSMENT The present disclosure relates to a crop breeding evaluation device and method for heterosis assessment. The device includes a sample-identification unit, one or more crop-trait sensors, an environmental sensing unit, a processor, and memory. Parent and hybrid crop samples are identified and measured, and sensor outputs are converted into trait values. The device associates each hybrid trait value with corresponding parental trait values and determines measurement comparability using sensor quality, identity, calibration, and environmental information. Heterosis calculation is performed only for qualified observations or after a validation operation. Mid-parent, better-parent, and optional standard heterosis values are generated with trait-direction-aware parental reference selection. Multiple trait-specific results can be combined into a confidence- weighted breeding index, while low-confidence observations generate targeted re-measurement requests. The device thereby provides traceable, sensor-linked and confidence-qualified heterosis evaluation for crop breeding programs.
