MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621094956 A) filed by Maulana Azad National Institute Of Technology Manit Bhopal on August 05, 2026, for System And Method For Controlling Traffic At An Intersection.

Inventors include Singh, Surendra; Singh, Manisha; and Pateriya, Rajesh Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system (104) for controlling traffic at an intersection, comprising one or more image acquisition devices (102), a traffic signal controller (106), a memory (204), and a processor (202). The image acquisition devices (102) capture image data corresponding to a plurality of traffic movement groups approaching the intersection. The processor (202) receives and processes the image data to determine a traffic demand associated with each traffic movement group and detect one or more priority vehicles within the traffic movement groups. Based on the determined traffic demand, the processor (202) generates scheduling scores, wherein traffic movement groups including priority vehicles are assigned an additional priority weight. The processor (202) determines signal phase durations based on the generated scheduling scores and transmits one or more control signals to the traffic signal controller (106) to control signal states of a plurality of traffic signals (108).
