The system may include a plurality of sensors (106), a controller (108), and an environment cooling system (110). The controlling operation of the environment cooling system (110) is based 10 on one or more control parameters and one or more input parameters received by the controller (108). The present disclosure employs principles of sensible cooling and air exchanges for preserving onions by maintaining the desired temperature range and desired relative humidity to maintain the quality of the stored onions by reducing heat and humidity stress and avoiding damage to the onion stock due to 15 weight loss, sprouting, rotting, spoilage, infestations, and other such losses.
