Abstract: The present invention discloses a system (100) for controlling status-update transmissions in a reconfigurable intelligent surface-assisted multi-cluster Internet-of- Things network. The system (100) comprises a main base station (102), a reconfigurable intelligent surface (104), multiple small base stations (106), IoT devices (110), and a computing device (114). First communication links (108) connect the small base stations (106) to the main base station (102) through the reconfigurable intelligent surface (104), while second communication links (112) connect the IoT devices (110) to small base stations (106). The computing device (114) executes modules (120) for acquiring Age of Information and link-rate values, generating and decoding particle-based scheduling trajectories, evaluating transmission success, detecting stagnation, repairing scheduling blocks using urgency-reliability scores, accepting particles, and issuing scheduling instructions. The system (100) thereby reduces long-term average Age of Information while maintaining feasible per-small-base-station scheduling.
