The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: An airbag deployment system and method for a vehicle are disclosed. The system comprises an airbag configured to deploy within a passenger compartment of the vehicle, an impact sensor comprising a switch that changes state upon contact with an obstacle and generates an impact detection signal, a weight sensor comprising a load cell coupled to a vehicle seat and configured to generate a weight signal, an optical sensor positioned to capture image data of the vehicle seat, an occupant classification module comprising a trained neural network classifier configured to classify an occupant into a human occupant category or a non-human object category, and a controller. Responsive to the impact detection signal, the controller determines the classification, suppresses deployment for a non-human object, and, for a human occupant, selects one of a plurality of discrete deployment levels based on the weight signal, an inflator inflating the airbag accordingly.
