Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTRADICTION-AWARE ADAPTIVE EVIDENCE TOPOLOGY FOR SCIENTIFIC HYPOTHESIS GENERATION The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented system (100) for contradiction-aware scientific knowledge discovery. The system (100) comprises one or more processors (102) and a non-transitory computer-readable memory (104) storing instructions that cause the system (100) to represent evidence items as claim-states within an evidence lattice (200), each claim-state comprising a subject-predicate-object triple with an associated confidence value and a provenance record. The system (100) determines whether a contradiction relationship exists between a pair of claim-states by comparing a first claim-state (210) against a negated form of a second claim-state (216). Upon determining that the contradiction relationship exists, the system (100) generates a contradiction hyperedge (208) that stores the first claim-state (210) and the second claim-state (216) as independently retrievable entries, each retaining its own confidence value (212, 218) and provenance record (214, 220), without merging the two claim-states into a single combined representation. The system (100) iteratively updates confidence values using a belief propagation process (112) until the confidence values stabilize, wherein claim-states linked by a contradiction hyperedge (208) retain independently stable confidence values. The system (100) outputs a contradiction-aware knowledge graph preserving the contradiction hyperedges and the independently retrievable claim- states.
