MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611094360 A) filed by Sharda University on August 04, 2026, for System And Method For Context-Aware Backend Switching In Real-Time Metro Train Arrival Prediction.

Inventors include Rashi Gupta; Navdeep Pundir; Arna Gupta; and Dr. Laxmi Kant Sagar.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a real-time metro train arrival prediction system (100) for generating an estimated time of arrival of a metro train operating within a hybrid transit network comprising underground zones, transition zones, and surface zones. The system comprises a Context-Aware Data Source Router (106), a Context Determination Engine (108), a Dynamic Trust Engine (110), a Backend Switching Engine (112), a Transition Arbitration Engine (114), a Prediction Engine (116), and a Data Acquisition Interface (120) configured to receive train-related data from a Wireless Sensor Network Data Source (122) and a Crowd Data Source (124). The system dynamically determines an operational context, assigns trust weights to available train-related data sources, automatically switches backend operating modes, performs transition arbitration, and generates a continuous estimated time of arrival for improved real-time metro train tracking.
