Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONFIDENCE-GATED MULTIMODAL PATIENT MONITORING AND CLINICAL ALERT ESCALATION The present invention is concerned with a system and process of confidence-gated multi-modality patient monitoring and clinical alert escalation. Patient monitoring information is obtained via various sensing modalities and analyzed to ascertain whether there is evidence of a candidate clinical event. The system computes an event confidence indicating the level of evidence supporting the candidate clinical event, as well as a sensing integrity confidence measuring the reliability of the patient monitoring information. In the case where either of the confidences fails to meet a particular verification criterion, confirmation patient monitoring information is obtained through repetition of the measurement, activation of another sensing modality, alteration of a sensing condition or the acquisition of data from a reference location. The candidate clinical event is verified, rejected or re-classified using the confirmation information. The clinical alert state is then decided for a verified event based on patient risk, physiological change, context and intervention urgency. FIG. 3
