Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CLOSED-LOOP SELF-CALIBRATING STRUCTURAL CONTROL The present invention relates to a system and method for closed loop self-calibration of structural control. Response signals are collected at different regions of a structure by distributed sensors. Forces are imposed on different regions of a structure by distributed actuators. Measured force signals are used for measuring actual force imposition at each actuator. While operating in the closed loop, the controller inputs bounded calibration signals, with distinct time signatures, to certain actuator commands. Controller computes relationship between actuator and sensor responses based on the measured force signals and responses of overlapping group of sensors. Comparison with a predetermined relationship gives spatially correlated residuals that are then used to detect sensor drift, actuator performance variation and variation in a response character of a structural region. Accordingly, the controller generates a corresponding sensor calibration, actuator calibration or control parameter update. Such an update is applied to a subsequent actuator command if and only if certain predefined stability and structural loading conditions are satisfied.
