MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125354 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for System And Method For Camera-Based Detection Of Visual And Postural Screen Strain With Verified, Personalized Break Interventions.
Inventors include Suganya P; P J Kumar; and Darshni S.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention provides a privacy-preserving, camera-based system and method for detecting and managing visual and postural screen strain. A Webcam (101) and an on-device Face Landmark Extraction module (102) obtain facial landmarks without transmitting or persistently storing image, video, or raw landmark data. A Signal Extraction module (103) derives gaze, blink, eye-closure, head-orientation, posture, and prolonged-stillness indicators, which are fused by a Composite Risk Scoring module (104) into separate Visual Exposure and Neck Strain Risk Scores. A Dominant-Strain Intervention Selector (105) determines the dominant risk and restricts intervention selection accordingly. A Break Verification & Anti-Cheat module (106) continuously verifies intervention-specific compliance and detects covered-lens or frozen-frame conditions for gating break-completion credit. An Escalating Enforcement Overlay (107) responds continuously to the same compliance signal. An Outcome Measurement & Personalization Learning module (108) compares pre- and post-intervention risk values to update intervention-specific effectiveness, learned recovery duration, and adaptive break-triggering thresholds, thereby providing personalized closed-loop strain management.
