Abstract: ABSTRACT System and Method for Blockchain-Based Academic Credential Verification The present disclosure relates to a system and method for verification of academic credentials based on blockchain. The system pulls in heterogeneous academic records and converts the records into standardised academic events that represent a credential lifecycle. Then, cryptographic event commitments are created and linked based on their chronological relationships to form a credential lifecycle graph. A temporal consistency module evaluates event sequence, timestamps, credit progression, examination and credential issuance conditions, and an institutional trust module establishes historical authorisation of an issuing institution and/or an academic program at a relevant issuance time. A credential integrity root based on the cryptographic event commitments is stored in a distributed blockchain ledger. A credential state module holds issuance, activation, verification, suspension, revocation, correction and supersession states. A privacy-preserving verification module constructs a minimum verification path for a credential attribute requested and generates a cryptographic verification proof without exposing unrelated academic information. Therefore, our solution provides tamper-evident lineage, historical issuer validation, efficient blockchain anchoring, controlled credential lifecycle management and privacy-preserving academic credential verification.
