Abstract: Method for battery recycling using laser materials processing technology. Waste battery material is provided in an enclosure. A laser recycling apparatus is used to recycle the waste battery material—that is, to heat (roast or smelt) at least a portion of the waste battery material to a predetermined temperature for a predetermined time. Metallic product(s) resulting from reduction during the recycling are then removed from the waste battery material. The enclosure may comprise a chamber or container, or may comprise a cover that extends from the laser recycling apparatus to enclosure a volume adjacent the waste battery material. The enclosure comprises at least one outlet that is proximate a filter, and a vapour product of the recycling is captured by the filter. Solid deposits collect on the filter during the recycling step(s) can be recovered once the recycling is complete. In some embodiments, the recycling steps are repeated.
