MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125337 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for System And Method For Battery Pack Degradation By Distributed Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy.

Inventors include Srivathsava M; Praveen Kumar V; Naveen Kumar K; Harish Y; and Suresh Krishna K.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for locating the origin and spread of degradation in a battery pack. Distributed electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) nodes (104) measure the impedance spectrum of each cell, with contextual data (106). A processing unit (110) forms a temporal degradation fingerprint of each cell (112) and builds a dynamic causal degradation topology (114), a directed graph whose edges, restricted to physically coupled cells, carry a confidence and an uncertainty (116). An active interrogation engine (118) ranks cells by risk, uncertainty, causal influence and expected information gain and directs further EIS measurements to the highest-ranked cells. A verification module (120) applies a safe perturbation to a suspected source cell through the battery management system, compares the downstream response with the prediction and updates the edge. A prognostic engine (122) identifies the origin cell and pathway and predicts failure risk and remaining useful life.
