Abstract: Agriculture is the backbone of the world economy. There is a ”hidden crisis” in the world of agriculture due to biological stressors in the underground world. Pests like White Grubs, which are larvae of insects that feed on crop roots, and other entomological insects that live in the ground cause billions of dollars in crop damage each year. These insects live completely in the underground world. The current pest management systems are mostly reactive in nature. Most commonly, the initial indicator of a pest problem is irreversible yellowing of plants or death of plants. The current diagnostic systems, like invasive soil sampling or using expensive accelerometers available in the lab setting, are labor- intensive, offer no feedback, and are cost-prohibitive for small- scale farming operations. This project aims to introduce a new autonomous framework in pest management using a new system called Bio-Acoustic Sentry. Using Edge AI technology, a “perpetual monitoring” state is achieved by recognizing rhythmic patterns of pest sounds before any initial signs of damage are apparent.
