MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641075817 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 19, 2026, for System And Method For Autonomous Fault Detection And Self-Healing Of Peripheral Devices In Embedded Microcontroller-Based Architectures.

Inventors include Sumathi; Bhaargav Rathor; Vaibhav Nangia; and Shah Mukt Bhavin.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a self-healing embedded peripheral monitoring system based on a microcontroller unit (101), configured to perform real-time fault detection, diagnosis, and autonomous recovery of peripheral devices (105) in embedded applications. The system interfaces with peripherals including a BMP280 sensor (102), OLED display (103), and other sensors (106) and actuators (107) through communication protocols such as I2C. A fault detection module continuously monitors peripheral responses and identifies failures based on communication timeouts and acknowledgment errors. Upon detection of a fault, a self-healing recovery mechanism is initiated, including interface reinitialization and retry operations, followed by selective hardware reset using a MOSFET-based control circuit (104). The system further provides real-time status visualization through the OLED display (103) and wireless diagnostic reporting via a Bluetooth module (108) to a smart device (109), enabling continuous monitoring, selective recovery, and improved reliability in embedded systems.
