Abstract: ABSTRACT System and Method for Autonomous Distributed Ionospheric Disturbance Detection and Intelligent Event Classification The present patent application is related to a distributed autonomous ionospheric disturbance intelligence system and process for real-time ionospheric disturbance detection, classification, and communication resiliency management utilizing Very Low Frequency (VLF) and Low Frequency (LF) signal analysis. The present inventionis based on a plurality of distributed sensor nodes comprised of VLF/LF antennas, software-defined radio receivers, processors, communication transceivers, and artificial intelligence and machine learning engines, which are able to detect and analyze various propagation characteristics including deviations in signal amplitude, phase shift, spectrum disturbance, and propagation delays. The present inventionuses self-calibrated adaptive propagation models, distributed consensus validation, federated learning architecture, and digital twin Earth-Ionosphere simulation modeling in order to accurately classify ionospheric disturbances caused by solar flare activities, geomagnetic storms, seismic disturbances of ionosphere and local electromagnetic interference. In addition, the invention creates communication degradation forecasts, dynamic communication route recommendations, and disturbance-based alerts to scientific facilities, aviation communication systems, and military communications.
