MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411100472 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 18, 2024, for System And Method For Automatic Annotation Of Pedestrians In Images And Point Cloud Data.
Inventors include Sujay Jayashankar; and Srinivas Grama.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (100) and a method (200) for automatic annotation of pedestrians in images and point cloud data. The method (200) receives (202, 208) images and point cloud data from a sensor system (150), detects pedestrians in the images and generates a mask corresponding to each pedestrian. The method (200) pre-processes (210) the point cloud data and categorizing (214) the pre-processed point cloud data into a plurality of clusters including a plurality of lidar points assigned with a label. The method (200) projects (220) the lidar points onto the images, identifies (224) the lidar points that overlap the generated mask, and verifies (226) the labels of the overlapping lidar points against a predefined count threshold. Based on a successful verification, the method (200) encompasses (228) the overlapping lidar points for automatic annotation of the pedestrians.
