Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATIC ACTUATION OF SERVICE BRAKES IN A DOWNHILL COMMUTE The present invention relates to a system (100) for automatic actuation of service brakes (114) of a vehicle in a downhill commute. The system (100) primarily comprises a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) (104), an Engine Control Unit (ECU) (102), a 3/2 solenoidal valve, plurality of brake actuators (112), a selective high pressure valve (128), and a Pressure Limiting Valve (PLV) (108). The VCU (104) is configured to monitor an engine speed of said vehicle in a continuous manner through said ECU (102), compare of said engine speed with a first predetermined engine speed, detect an engine speed higher than the first predetermined engine speed, actuate said 3/2 solenoid valve (110), and thereupon supply a predetermined air pressure to said 3/2 solenoid valve (110). The VCU (104) further actuates said plurality of brake actuators (112) through said 3/2 solenoid valve (110) for actuating said service brakes and bring down the engine speed, then detects an engine speed lower than the second predetermined engine speed, and finally disengages said plurality of brake actuators (112) through said 3/2 solenoid valve (110) for deactivating said service brakes.
