Abstract: The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart irrigation system designed to optimize water utilization, reduce agricultural operational costs, and improve crop productivity through automated irrigation management. The system comprises an ESP32 microcontroller, capacitive soil moisture sensors, environmental sensing modules for temperature and humidity monitoring, a wireless communication interface, a relay-controlled water pump, and a cloud-based monitoring platform. The proposed system continuously acquires real-time field data and employs an adaptive control algorithm to determine irrigation requirements based on predefined soil moisture thresholds. When soil moisture levels fall below a minimum threshold, irrigation is automatically initiated, and the water supply is terminated once the desired moisture level is achieved. The system further enables remote monitoring, control, and notification services through a mobile application, allowing farmers to access real-time information and manage irrigation operations from any location. Experimental implementation demonstrates significant water savings, reduced energy consumption, and lower labor requirements compared to conventional irrigation methods. The invention provides a low-cost, scalable, and easily deployable solution suitable for small, medium, and large-scale agricultural applications, thereby supporting sustainable farming practices and efficient water resource management.
