Abstract: A system (108) and method (1600) for automated identification and prioritization of polluted river stretches is provided. A river network graph is created based on receiving multi source environmental input data corresponding to a river basin. The river network graph comprises a plurality of interconnected spatial units stored as nodes, wherein each node corresponds to a monitoring station (106), and directed edges between the nodes are indicative of upstream downstream hydrological connectivity. A node level feature vector is generated for each monitoring station (106) based on correlating the multi source environmental input data with the river network graph. A spatial pollution inference model is created based on processing the node level feature vector in accordance with the upstream downstream hydrological connectivity encoded in the river network graph. A pollution state indicator is generated for each river stretch based on correlating the node level feature vector with pollution influence propagation determined by the spatial pollution inference model. A prioritized ordering of the river stretches is provided based on correlating the pollution state indicator of each node.
